while walking down the Point Fermin Park beach yesterday, an 8-year-old San Pedro boy and his family discovered a champagne bottle that had just completed a journey from Guam that began more than 18 years before. Inside the bottle was a note that read: ’Hello, I’m glad you found this note. I hope it went a long way and took a long time to be found. I’m an American living in Guam, just outside the city Agana. This is one of the Marianna Islands. This is my 76th note I have put out to sea.’ The note was signed by a John Simpson and dated Oct. 9, 1961. Here, Jesus Gonzalez holds up the note and points to the part of the beach where the bottle was found. Ironically  the bottle, which had proved so seaworthy a vessel through its 6,000-mile odyssey, was accidentally dropped and broken on the shoreline shortly after it was pulled from the sea. photo dated – March 21, 1980
