A Los Angeles stop sign in 1925, shortly after the traffic safety signs were introduced in the city. Per the recommendations of the First National Conference on Street and Highway Safety of 1924, the signs featured a diamond shape with white letters over a red background. Octogonal stop signs arrived in L.A. several years later.
